WAINZUA®▼(eplontersen) dosing, administration and Homecare

WAINZUA dosing, administration and Homecare

WAINZUA is indicated for the treatment of hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (ATTRv amyloidosis) in adult patients with Stage 1 and 2 polyneuropathy.1

The WAINZUA pre-filled pen is portable, offering patients the flexibility to self-administer in their preferred environment.

Patients can either self-administer or have their caregiver administer in their preferred environment,1 or have a nurse administer at home as part of the Homecare Service, a patient support service developed and funded by AstraZeneca UK and available only to eligible patients at healthcare organisations that have formally signed up to it.

 

Store WAINZUA in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C. If needed, it can remain in its original carton below 30°C for up to 6 weeks.*

 

*If not used within 6 weeks, it should be discarded. Store in the original package to protect from light. Do not freeze. Do not expose to heat.

The first injection administered by the patient or caregiver should be performed under the guidance of an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Patients and/or caregivers should be trained in the subcutaneous administration of WAINZUA.1

The WAINZUA Homecare Service, provided by HealthNet Homecare, is a patient support service developed and funded by AstraZeneca UK that allows patients to arrange the delivery of their medication for when it suits them.

 

This service is available only to eligible patients at healthcare organisations that have formally signed up to it.

The WAINZUA Homecare Service includes:

At-home device training for patients and/or caregivers wanting to self-administer; Up to four face-to-face nurse-led visits. The first visit will always be face-to-face. Subsequent visits can be face-to-face or virtual†

  • This includes sharps containers with alcohol wipes, cotton balls and small plasters (if required)

WAINZUA dosing

WAINZUA is recommended as a 45 mg single dose, administered monthly by subcutaneous injection.1


Dosing considerations

  • Patients are advised vitamin A supplementation at approximately, but not exceeding, 2500 IU to 3000 IU per day whilst taking WAINZUA1
  • If a dose of WAINZUA is missed, the dose should be administered as soon as possible. Thereafter, the patient can resume dosing at monthly intervals from the date of the last dose1

Elderly population

No dose adjustments are required in elderly patients (≥65 years of age).

Renal impairment

No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥45 to <90 ml/min/1.73 m2). 
WAINZUA has not been studied in patients with eGFR <45 ml/min/1.73 m2 or end-stage renal disease and should only be used in these patients if the anticipated clinical benefit outweighs the potential risk.

Hepatic impairment

No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild hepatic impairment. WAINZUA has not been studied in patients with moderate or severe hepatic impairment and should only be used in these patients if the anticipated clinical benefit outweighs the potential risk.

Paediatric population

The safety and efficacy of WAINZUA in children and adolescents below 18 years of age have not been established.

 

 

How to administer WAINZUA

There are three steps to the administration of WAINZUA: prep, inject and check.

Important information you need to know before using the WAINZUA pre-filled pen

Before using the pre-filled pen, ensure that WAINZUA has been stored appropriately:1,2

 

  • In the original carton until ready to use
  • In the refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C. If needed, an unopened carton can be stored at room temperature up to 30°C for up to 6 weeks
  • Each pen contains one dose and can only be used once
